I have two ponds in north texas and southern oklahoma. Each has primarily channel cats in them. The water temp in my swinning pool is high 50s, so I guess the ponds are the same. The day time temp is 50-75 in the last week with wind. So is it too early to try to catch them? I dont feed them so I dont know how active they are, I am going to try them the next nice day I can. Wondering if anyone is catching cats yet. Thanks JB.

The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese. Or I have been told.

JB-

Here in Nebraska channel catfishing starts right after ice off. Wind blown shores pile up adult shad that died during the cold burst. Anglers use cut shad and do very well in these areas. You can bet in your climate that the channels are more than willing to hammer your bait. They are caught year round in lower Oklahoma and Texas. This can be the very best time of year.

Channels are even caught through the ice although not with the regularity that one can expect after the ice is gone. Now flatheads are another story since they will more than likely hibernate for a period of time. Good Luck!

You should be able to catch catfish right now. Prior to the passage of a cold front they will feed quite well.
We electrofished a small lake last week during those 75 degree days and found several channel cat in shallow water.

I set some trot lines on the Missouri river last weekend. I caught 2 small blues but most of my bait was gone.
