I want to first of all say this forum is very helpful to individuals like me who just aquired some land with a pond.
My question has to do with my pond which is around twenty years old according to people who live in the area. My delimma is I have about twelve trees that are growing on the dam and I want just grass on the dam and no trees. Can I just cut them down and put stump killer on them or do I need to live with them another twenty years?

from what i understand billy, is that you should'nt cut down anything over 6" in diam. they say that the roots will die and leave holes in the damn from any tree larger. on my damn's i have the same prob. several large trees.. shit they've been there for 30 yrs.. whats another 30..

I have heard pretty much the same as Chris. I too have a 30 year old tree smack dab in the middle of my damn dam! oops! I also have 8 or 10 smaller trees on the back side of my dam, half of which are already dead. I know that this is an expensive repair bill just waiting to happen, but nothing I can do right now. I would leave them be until you are forced to do something about them if they are much more than saplings.
