I am going to build a 5A lake in mid-W GA (I-20) 3'-8' deep, and have 2 questions:Between the shore and the 3'drop-off, is it possible to carve a ledge for plant growth (cover),and beds for bass & bream? How far below water level should this ledge be for the beds. This ledge will not encircle the entire lake - only 3-4 100' sections. Is that a good idea? Thanks

In my pond, the bass nests are 18-24" deep. I think Bluegill might be on the shallow side of that. With your Georgia clay, you may want to incorporate gravel into your spawning beds. You run the risk of having cattails or another aquatic plant take over that shallow area. You may want to put lilly pads in pots in those areas.

Thanks, Andy. I like the lily pads in pots idea. Randy
