My pond is 4 acres, 2.5 to 6 feet in dept and I am located in SE Louisiana. I understand that the optimum temp for stocking bream is <55 deg and I stocked bream this past Dec. The fish farm will have bass ready for shipment in June which is pretty hot here in SE Louisiana. I do not know what the water temp will be but it will be well above 55 deg it is 60 deg now, will this present a problem?

Not sure about shipment for higher temps, but that is when I stock all my fingerling bass. Just make sure to temper them if the water their in is more than 5 degrees diff than pond water. Not alot of choice here though. Many pondowners do not realize the fingerlings are only avail for a short time. I buy mine the first week of June b/c that's when my F1 bass are ready for pickup and have acheived 2".

Thanks Greg,

I will be hauling the fish in my van and they are packaged in styrofoam ice chests so I should be ok.

BTW; I want to try the Southern Excellence fertilizering method using homemade buckets and I am having a heck of a time finding a granulated fertilizer in my area. The only thing that I have found is Scott's Pond Fertilizer 10-50-0 at $19.99 for 12.5 pounds, seems expensive to me, any sugestions?

Not to step on Greg's toes, but do you have an Estes Chemical nearby? I know there are some in east Texas. They carry Trophymaker pond fertilizer which I have used with good success. It, however, is a quick dissolve fertilizer and is not designed to be used as you describe.

Otherwise try your local feed store and tell them the formulation you are looking for. They'll tell you if it is available.

BTW, you sould be able to buy Southern Excellence from one of this site's sponsors and have it shipped to you and see if it works for you.

If you have a Southern States store near by, you can buy tobacco fertilizer from them. It costs $18 for 100 lbs and has the exact same formulation as the SE buckets.

The local feed stores only carry the liquid and are reluctant to make a special order for me. I do not think that they get any request for granulated fertilizers in a formula adequate for pond usage because of the popularity of the liquid fertilizers.

Southern Excellence was recently bought out by one of the original inventors and was not shipping to individuals at the time I spoke with him, although this may change.

I bought the Scott's at Florida Parish Feed Service, a local dealer. Is $19.99 a high price for 12.5lbs?

jb - what is the name and manufacturer of the fertilizer that you use, tobacco is not grown in SE Louisiana.

fishman not stepping on my toes. I don't think the tobacco fert is avail in many places. The Scott's price is high @ $1.60/lb. My price is going up and still $1.20 retail for 12-48-8. Lee and tickfawriver you guys might call Southeastern POnd Mgmt on back cover of every POnd Boss mag. They have office in Jackson, MS and they told me they go over to LA 888-830-POND. I just think the water soluble fertilizer is easier to use, so I don't care if you get it from me or someone else as long as you get the pond fertilized.

Just noticed the March/April cover on the pondboss web site. Has any one got the latest issue in the mail yet?

Spring must be just around the corner.
