Can anyone help a newbie? I am interested in building a small backyard pond for personal consumption(me, wife and two small kids). I am on a slight slope and the backyard is mostly clay but enough dirt mix that a liner may be called for. What would be the minimum depth for a 15 ft by 30 ft catfish pond. I would also like to learn about talapia and fresh water prawns. Could I section off areas and have water flow from one into the other? I am thinking of using rain runoff from my house and lot to keep it full with a little city water for dry spells. Would an air pump be required?
I am in North Alabama (Huntsville) and this is a long term project for me.
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Get in touch with Norman Latona, Southeastern Pond Management Company. He can help. (888)830-7663.
A pond that size would need aeration, and probably minerals added to rainwater. But, you can do it, should you choose. You won't raise mucho fish, but certainly enough to enhance the family menu.
Catfish are probably your best bet. Tilapia are sub-tropical fish, and will die during cold temps.
