My pond will be bordering someone else's property, so what is a good plant(tree) fence to keep the pond more private. Also, what type of plants and trees should i plant around the pond to give it a more aestically pleasing look?

jixxer, Lotsa in the water plant people here. I'm sure they will join in. Seems to me that landscapeing the outside area is a matter of personal preference. Do we go formal, native and natural, things like this. Good luck, I'm going through a similar situation in a garden area on my place.

Willows and evergreens are no-no's they drink way too much. Other than that, what ever your preference.

if you go to the arbor day foundation web site and look under evergreens, then look up american arborvitae (i think that is how it is spelled), you'll see a pic of what i plan to plant every 3 feet apart in an area i want a "tree screen" from what i have gathered, they grow at a decent rate vertical, not outward, so plant them 3 feet together...just look at the pic and you'll see what i am talking about. as far as sucking up to much water, not sure about that. you could always run a little line with a water drip along the trees, but i think they would take just fine. also, check on that web site to see how they do in your area. good luck. oh, start with smaller trees...cheaper....taller trees of the above mentioned type much more expensive. the prices on the arbor day site is the cheapest i've found so far. depends on how much you need to screen off. mark

jixxxer , i have had the same problem , the fastest growing plant for privacy and be able to fully control is the privot hedge. in about 3 years you get some privacy (6-7 ft ) buying 2 to 3 foot plants.arborvitae's grow bout ft. a year under good condition's , trenchy arborvitae is alot wider bush , planting 6 ft apart, if you want to wait that long. after 2 kid's trashed my pond ,visiting my new neighbor, i put up a 7 ft board on board fench 300 ft, electric top and bottom, electric fence the rest. i'll plant rose of sharon every other section in the spring. instant privacy though LOL good luck

jixxxer, I use pompas grasses. They work great, have sharp leaves so going between them is tough. They grow about 7-8ft tall and are planted three feet apart
