... what sort of maintenance can we do while it's down, aside from clearing and re-glueing the pvc pipe overflow that failed last year when I tried to clear the drain. DIdn't see any fish. I think the locals have fished it out. I'm planning to flatten the bank a bit on the low side of the pond where the road is, creating a "beach". Also, I'm leaving three 30 ft hemlocks growing on the bank near the "beach". Is that ok?

Might want to see about increasing depth if some siltation has occured. Not sure why you didn't find a single fish. Might have had a fish kill. Might not be deep enough to hold fish through winter?

While I'm not sure what siltation looks like, I was pleased that the pond was remakably clean with little in the way of stumps, debris, ect. There may be fish in the water that's left; I couldn't see from my far away vantage point. I may be able to see when it dries up enought to walk down to the water's edge. The water's down enough to clear the drain of it's obstruction and re-fit the overflow pipe. Then it can refill and get stocked.
