No, I'm not talking about you people in the other 49 states. The hole is about to go dry and I want to know if anyone knows about inbreeding. Can I stock another pond with these brothers and sisters? At hatcheries, do they sell you some siblings or do they try to mix them up a bit?

My God. I hope you're talking about fish.

Barnes, you've really got some free time on your hands.

Do some push-ups, sit-ups, or squat thrusts....make some productive usage of your time.

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I always thought a little CPR on an old post was pretty funny.

I hate to be a pessimist but I don't believe most suppliers take inbreeding as a consideration when raising fish. I've seen some things on some fish I've bought that tell me that the gene pool is quite small. Some even go as far as culling and selling the stunted fish as just younger fish.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

There's a lake in Central Kansas that has purebred striped bass in it. Virtually every fish in an entire year class (thousands of examples) has the same goofy mutation in it's spiny dorsal fin. This tells me that probably every fish comes from the same small group of parents, possibly related. I agree with you Cecil 100%.

It is best to mix things up once in a while.

Our chinook sport fishery in the Great Lakes came from a couple of females and a male from what I've been told.

One thing that prevents the use of using fresh stocks to introduce genetic diversity, here in the Great lakes states, is the fear of introducing disease and the stifling government importation regulations that mandate expensive disease testing to cross state lines.

Hey Barnes, go dig up some other posts of mine that no one answered. I guess there weren't as many active people back then.
