I am looking for a type of fish to control vegetation in our spring fed 2 acre pond. We currently have bass, crappie and trout. I want to be environmentally freindly and not effect to other populations. Help!

DMiller: You don't say where your pond is located, so we don't know if white amur are legally available to you. Check with local agencies on "grass carp."
In Texas, for instance, the white amur is legal to stock, but only with the proper certification and paperwork from the Parks and Wildlife department. Arkansas is wide open.
In Pond Boss magazine, we have covered grass carp. You a subscriber? Call 903-564-6144 for a sample copy. Check out the back issues. It's a cheap ($6) source of ready info.

Sorry for the multiple picture posts but I am trying to figure out the how to do picture postings. I will give you my home page so you can read some of the things I did to control vegetation and Filamentous (rug moss) algae in my pond without chemicals with the right numbers and kinds of fish. The Israeli carp shown here is very central in my rug moss control and to a lesser extent are the KOI and channel carp for eating this algae also. The grass carp are also great for controlling submerged water plants. Plus you need predator fish to keep the carp from spreading throughout you pond. All of these fish must be in the numbers needed for your pond, not too many and not to few and you have to wait to see the results and make corrections. But it really does work very well for me. But all ponds are different. John http://hometown.aol.com/jmonroe85

Should be Channel Catfish in the above post.Another picture. I am showing here that I don't have any algae in my pond in this hot weather. Picured are Spatterdoc and white lilies. I like lilies. John
