On most forums there is a setting to get email notifications after replies to subscribed posts that I replied in or started.
Is there a way on PB.com?

Knobber is correct, but that is only a partial solution.

This forum is fairly low on the scale for functionality features ... but it is free.

If you would like to improve that situation, I believe the most positive step you can make is to subscribe to Pond Boss Magazine.

Well, I'd say that I gave the OP a "complete" solution to his question. wink

I agree, though. More features would be nice, like a decent mobile app/interface, push notifications, and of course, simple image insertion. Other free forums have all these things.

Does the magazine revenue support the forum? There is a vague forum donation form to Ask the Boss in the upper right corner. I'd be inclined to donate if I knew where the money was going or if there were some perks for membership.

Knobber, not hating, but here are the facts.

The magazine subscribers, along with advertisers that get product purchasing customers, supports the magazine subscription. PB magazine has to be looked at as a technical journal, and having subscribed to several database magazines $50-$60 a year magazines over the years, I know the benefit. One article that could save me a week of head scratching is worth far more than the annual magazine price. Book store magazines like Guns & Ammo have subscriptions over 400,000, and general interest magazines like Reader's Digest have almost 3,000,000 subscriptions. Tech magazines are aimed at a smaller targeted groups that get answers that can't be "easily" found anywhere else. Because of that, their subscription numbers are far less and have lower income.

Without getting into exact numbers, I can assure you that the donations don't cover one month of the PB forum. They do help, and members who donate are really appreciated, but hosting websites on dedicated boxes along with tech support ain't cheap. As far as perks, getting free answers from some of the most knowledgeable people in the pond world should cover the perks. Having biologists come to your pond, do water tests, weed identification, stocking recommendations, etc. would not be financially feasible for many of our PB forum members. As a group we, meaning mods and knowledgeable members, help provide that information for free.

Good Morning to all , as I sit here and read the new post from the night or day before as I pretty much do every morning , this is just my 2 cents worth for what it is worth .. I am a monthly subscriber to POND BOSS magazine and I also DONATE every month a small amount in hopes that it " helps " the cause that each and every one of us ENJOYS here on this forum , Obviously we are passionate about ponds ,fish and the fun and beauty that a pond or lake brings to our properties , I never question where my money went or goes , 2.5 years ago all i knew was that i would love for my life long goal of owning a body of water that my family ( KIDS , GRAND KIDS and family friends ) would enjoy long after i was gone , Through the help of this Forum , soaking up every ounce of information , watching pond boss videos ( I think i have seen every one on YouTube and now via Facebook ) I was able to not only have a pond built , stock and manage the water , install myself a bottom diffused system , install a TEXAS HUNTER feeder and stock with a high Protein feed ( Aqua max MVP ) and now this year being able to harvest HBG that will tick the scales at 1 pound and catch LMB that tick the scales at 3 pound plus ( feed trained ) I think i got my moneys worth , there is NO doubt in my mind Pond Boss would pick up the phone if i ever needed , whats that worth ?? I am in no way calling out anyone or wanting to upset anyone but its my 2 cents worth and IMO we enjoy many " perks " and its my hope that anyone not donating monthly would do so knowing that even though this forum may not be " up to speed " by today's standards for this old guy its fast enough and I am happy to have this resource , as for " free" . yep its free to us but someone somewhere pays , either cash , time away , blood ,sweat and tears some one always pays , I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and you get the rain you need

Thanks for the info. I am not hating, either. This community is great, and I learned a lot already. @FishinRod suggested that buying the magazine (which I do) is the best way to support the forum. However, there is also the forum donation. I was merely asking for clarification on these funding sources.

As for "perks", I am referring to the forum software functionality, not the obvious wealth of knowledge available here. I pay $20 annually to be a "supporting member" of another forum. These are the perks that come with it:

(2) Forum Decals
Access to active private forums for Supporting Members only.
Recognition of your Supporting Member status
The ability to post in Classifieds without waiting
Editing time increases to One Month
The ability to turn off advertisements.
The ability to change username.
Longer self editing time.
Unlimited private message space.
Unlimited file attachment space.
Unlimited gallery space.

Several of those I fully agree with.

Two I would really like is, a blue fish instead of a blue check(X) for those that contribute in a calendar year. Also, a private section for logged in members. The threads might be outside the pond realm, but the forum rules would be 100% adhered to. Texas Fishing Forum did, or still does, have that. But if a poster crosses the line, he'll get hammered by the mods. That could be a slippery slope and could easily affect advertising, so I'm not inclined to think that will ever happen.
