ewest, know of any research docs on Tilapia (reference) for NEPA paperwork request? We are trying to get something found in writing, that says Tilapia actually eat algal growth and even though we know they do, we need reference material that says so.. I can't find anything, my bio can't find anything either. Thanks!!

Snipe, I know Texas A&M started studying tilapia a long time ago. Here is an old (1999) publication from TAMU. Tilapia BiologyThe discussion of feeding behavior on page 3 states how they trap and consume filamentous algae. Further, it differentiates their method from "true" filter feeders such as gizzard shad and silver carp. Hope that helps!
