As I get ready to tackle evaluating and managing around 20 ranch ponds ranging from 3/4 acre to 40 acres, I was curious what Apps or Technological resources does anyone use and recommend? Two iPhone apps that I use quite often are onX Hunt and Distance Measure. onX Hunt is a very powerful map/tracking tool. It is one of those apps you can’t really believe is Free. It is geared towards hunting, but I use it for marking brush piles, underwater trees, fish catch locations, etc. You can zoom way in for accurate placement of waypoints and there are several different icons you can use. For each waypoint you can upload pictures, add notes, see the wind/weather for that location, etc. I could see many ways this app could be useful for someone managing a pond. Especially someone like me managing several. onX Hunt by North Texas Half Acre, on Flickr onX Hunt Waypoint by North Texas Half Acre, on Flickr The Distance Measure app is a very simple app that easily allows you to measure distance between points or the area of several points. I used this app to verify the size of all of my ponds. You could also use it to estimate your watershed size. I like Mapright. It's got seven different maps we can toggle back and forth, from topo maps to GoogleEarth and others. Use it almost every day for client work, studying watershed sizes, water flow direction, pond sites, pond sizes, etc. OnX is good, too...

Ive got onX that I use in my daily work, I didnt realize there was a free version, I pay around 25.00 per yr for a couple states, but it does all the line measuring and layouts like lake size and such by itself.
It runs off of google map pictures tho and my lake does not show up yet on google maps, the last picture they show of the site is from over 4 yrs ago, the core of the lake was in, and the tractors and scrapers are sitting onsite, which was in the fall of 18. no new pictures since. I will look into the Mapright app, see if it is any difference. thanks for the info
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.
