I am not an expert on pond dyes, but I think it is a little early to start your dye treatments?

I think most people start in March or April. I would assume March would probably be the typical start time in Georgia.

Can you also list the plants and algae that you are trying to control? I believe most of the people use the dyes in their pond as just ONE of the weapons at their disposal. They also specifically target their main problem plants.

That info should help get you a better answer when an actual expert drops into your thread.

The dye that we sell is rated at 1 qt for four acre feet. It's really a super concentrated dye. When poured out it is iridescent black looking but turns the water blue.

I like the black color myself. Not a fan of the aqua color. The black looks awesome and last year I mixed it with midnight blue which still gave it a good dark look. We plan to start dying our pond in the spring in hopes that it may help limit the coontail growth, at least in the deeper water. My wife is itching to do it now but I tell her I think it's wasted resources seeing that the dye would wear off by the time the weather starts to warm in the spring. I am assuming the weeds won't grow much, if at all, in the cold and cloudiness of the winter.

I prefer Airmax Nature's Blue Pond Dye Packets, used to use the liquid, but the powder works as good or better. I especially use it in winter, when water clarity would otherwise be crystal clear.
It's a cold dark place down there from fall to spring, which makes it very hard for the weed biomass to hang on, and it gives fish a fighting chance when the otters come visit.

In spring, as the algae bloom starts to do the job of preventing light reach bottom, I use less of it.
