I have a little over acre pond and on the north bank I have pea gravel area for my bluegills to spawn on and they love it. I just did a little reconstruction ( since the water was low) so I would have more water displacement and had a perfect area on the south bank to make a long ledge that would be about 2 1/2 to 3 1/2' deep come this spring. Wasn't a whole lot of area on North bank to modify. Question is: I know bass spawn on north banks in lakes to have protection from Northern winds , If I put pea gravel on the south areas that i think would be great for spawning ( except facing the south) would bass like them as well ? I don't want to spend money on pea gravel if they are just going to spawn somewhere more on north bank. This pond is only about 3 years old. I know bass will spawn regardless, but like to give them more prime conditions if possible. Thanks in advance.

A one acre pond water temp will be about the same all the way around. They will spawn in protected areas more than worrying too much on bottom material. I don't think you need to be overthinking it. I have seen bass spawn on trash can lids and even in the forks of pecan trees that became flooded!. Give them some protection to get behind to spawn in shallow water and I think you will be fine. It gives the fry something to hide in too giving them a better chance of survival. Just my opinion.

Do you have lots of wave/wind action on the south shore in may/June (spawning time in your location)? If not then put it there and add some thick cover to help both the spawn and fry survival.

What are your fishing goals? If wanting large Bluegill, by all means, encourage LMB spawns...If wanting lareg Bass, do NOT encourage LMB spawns, and cull all LMB aggressively that are 95% or less on Wr.
