I have a pond that has a liner in it. The liner is exposed 3'-4' above water level. The bank is to steap to cover with soil. I'm looking for something that looks natural to cover the liner.
Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

That's a lot of exposure. I assume most of it is because the water level is low, right?

A creeping grass like bermuda or centipede will help some. I've seen it drop 2' down over a fresh clay cut. It may go a little farther for all I know.

You could use some Colorado flagstone. I've tried it and it works pretty good.

Is it unrealistic to use rolls of coconut husks or hay until something roots or grabs on to it? Perhaps some sort of landscape fabric? What if you build a grid-work out of PVC and landscape material, lay it on the liner and fill it with soil, then plant it? Just brainstorming.

I may have to do a liner as a Plan B and will have to work around this thing, too. I don't want to hijack the thread here, but any of you have seams? I have heard Bruce say that seams suck. Are they out of the question?

MikeB, I didn't like the look of all of that exposed bank when the water level dropped either. So I sort of plastered mine. With a small pond it might not be cost prohibitive to use rock like I did. I don't have a liner, but the process looks like it could be the same.

Start at the top laying comcrete in a thin layer, inch or 2, then press rock into the wet motar. I assume that you have some thing that holds the liner down on top of the bank? Smooth the concrete to whatever it is and work your way to what everlevel you would like. For added strength you could cover the bank with a wire mesh and cover that with the concrete. I have some better pictures if you are interested.

Yes, its alot of exposure...but not because the water level is low...Flagstone wouldn't work, the bank is to steep. Hopeing to find some kind of matting 2"-3" thick, that looks like some kind of bark mulch... That you can drap down the liner and attach at the top. Is there any such thing?

I had a similar problem on my spillway with washout. As they were working on a local highway I stopped and talked to the guyswhen they were planting grass in the ditches. The landscaping material they put down for the grass is removed and thrown away when the grass comes up.It was free for the asking and worked very well to keep everything in place. They pull it back up so the mowers dont get it down the road.I left it in place as that wasnt an issue for me.Its a burlap type material about 10 ft wide as long as they can pull up.(They accidently put a couple of unused rools of it on my trailor when they loaded me up). If you can catch them when they're picking it back up like I did they loaded for me,said they just dumped it in a hole&burned it.
good luck

I have seen fake bark rings to put around tree bases. Try tracking down the manufacturer and see if they have other shapes available.

Try this. It may be something worth checking out. The client I had worked with is outside of Harrisburg, PA. They have other locations throughout the US, though.
