What exactly is this stuff? Is it safe to use? It’s not lime so what is it and what will it do to my water? This product has pond application directions but I have no idea what it actually is or if it’s a bad idea to try.

Active Ingredient Calcium - 25.08% Magnesium - 0.37% Calcium Oxide Equivalent - 35.11% Calcium Carbonate - 62.7% Magnesium Carbonate - 1.29%

I sent a water sample off yesterday to figure out my turbidity problem and was assuming I need a couple tons of lime. I know I should wait for the results but I was just trying to plan in advance because I’m pretty sure it needs it. The problem I have is that I can’t seem to find a spreader truck or a boat capable of carrying tons of lime and a trash pump around here. My co-ops only rent buggies that are axel driven and my farmer friends aren’t willing to fire up their PTO units until next Feb/Mar.

My pond is only a little over an acre. Any suggestions on where to hire someone at a reasonable price? Southeastern Pond Management is closest place I know of and it is 185 miles away and have a 25 ton minimum at $2500 plus $2+ a mile. I’m in Escambia county Alabama which is about an hour north of Mobile and the coast.

Looks like a found a Co-Op with a spreader for $60 a ton for at lime plus a delivery fee. Just waiting on my test results.

I’d still like to know what this product is about. Anyone?

Does this product also go under the name Calcis? I seem to recall that was a supposedly superior way to lime a pond using liquids.

They look very similar but are not the same product. I ordered the Cal Flo and think I’m going to use it on my dam to help grow grass in some heavy clay areas where my top soil has eroded. I think I’ll also try some in a bucket of pond water and give it a week and run another test.

Here is the Calis label ingredients

I’d really like to here from with knowledge or experience before I use a product like this in my pond. This seems like a very simple and relatively cheap solution for alkalinity and PH issues for us smaller pond guys.

Cal-flo is not worth money or effort...If wou want Ag Lime in a much easier to apply form, use Calcis...5 gallons equal 1 ton of ag lime CCEE (Calcium Carbonate effective equivelance)

I need to apply roughly ten tons of ag lime annually to keep alkalinity above 40. So that would be 50 gallons Calcis, but I didn't see price at BioSafe site. Apparently it acts much faster in liquid form than standard ag lime.

The advantage is that I might be able to handle this on my own, unlike ten or twenty tons of ag lime. But how pricy is it???
