Hello everyone. Very new to this pond thing. I am in the process of digging a 2 1/2 acre pond on flat ground no water shed. Seems ive found the right spot to learn. Thanks for the wealth of knowledge. Looking forward to hopefully creating a great fishery for my family and neighbors to enjoy. Just wanted to say hello and thanks again

Welcome to the forum! Post some pictures of your build as you go. What do you plan to stock?

Welcome to PB! People here are glad to help & share, and we have some genuine experts who can advise you. Watch out for the birds, they can be really bad in your area.

Plans for this pond will be to have a small swimming area but more importantly to have the best fishery possible . Plan on stocking bluegill with some redear & bass would like to have a good balance of quality fish. My contractor is digging it out in sections then connecting it all when done. Dont think water will be an issue. He's finished about a 3rd an acre so far and it filled in just a couple of good rains. We do have a really high water table on the lot its always held water even during drought. Its really slow digging around here with all the rain. Pond will be 8-12’ deep with a few ridges and a couple deep trenches but not to sure about bottom design. Learning as we go. I do plan on feeding and aerating. Birds not to bad an issue kind of a residential area and pond will only be 100 ft or so from my house always alot going on outside around here. We are still in beginning stages of this project and open to whatever good ideas i can come across

Great that you are on this site early in the process. It should help you avoid some common pitfalls like overstocking and introducing fish species that might result in undesirable outcomes. One thing that is usually beneficial is to stock early with a small forage species like fathead minnow (FHM) and letting them reproduce so that they provide food for the game species introduced later like bluegill (BG), readear sunfish (RES), and largemouth bass (LMB). Just including a few acronyms used on this site. Best of luck with the project!
