Scott -- here are a couple of sites. There are a lot of sites out there. Try a google search for fish pictures.

Dave W. - The Texas site will be a tremendous resource when they get images of all those fish.

I saw your information about standard weight of yellow perch in the current issue of In- Fisherman mag. Do you know who came up with the term "jelopy" perch?

Thanks for the info a customer of our's is building a web site for us and trying to help him out. We were told it"s time to come out of the stoneage, heck we just figured out how to use the new phone system and now they are pushing lap tops and digital cameras.

Watch out, Scott. This technology stuff just sort of creeps up on you. All of a sudden, old dogs like me are swimming close to the mainstream!! :-)

Ooops. Just saw that post from Bill Cody.

Actually, my former grad student (Dan Isermann, who now works for Ohio DNR) came up with that one. He just said if a jumbo is a big one, then what is the next size class UP from that. Since he was probably writing his dry, boring dissertation at that time, he probably fell back to his old college class in creative writing and figured the alliteration (j in jumbo, j in jalopy) would be good. I didn't think it was all that catchy, but I wasn't sharp enough to come up with a better j-word!

The point is still valid though. It's not that tough to produce 10-12 inch yellow perch around here. However, the 14-inchers are really rare.

Thanks for the comment.

Dave

Scott -- I took my own advice, and did a little more searching for fish web sites.

First, I found a couple from NY for you (one from Cornell, and one from DEC).

http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/dfwmr/fish/fishspecs/index.html

http://fish.dnr.cornell.edu/nyfish/fish.html

Perhaps those are the type that you really want?

Here are a few more generic ones that just sort of popped up in no special order.

http://pictures.fws.gov/

http://www.bcfishingreports.com/bcfish.htm

http://www.wa.gov/wdfw/fish/regs/2003/03regs-4.pdf

http://content.lib.washington.edu/fish/

Hope at least the NY ones are useful for you!

Dave, we have a regional outdoor show host who loudly and annoyingly uses the terms "slobs" or worse yet "slobasauruses" \:\( I bet those Infisherman guys would love that one.

Thanks to all for the reply's. Up here jalopy perch our found out on millers 90 acre pond where there is an old model T ford that sunk in the 40s and always produces 2lb perch. It sits in 40ft of water and is always a spot we fight over.
Thanks again
