Help Identifying
Need help identifying this very interesting fish!
I would love to think I know what this fish is; however, I am no expert especially with small fish.

I don't know but it looks like a member of the perch family. So I thinking one of the small darter like perches or maybe a juvenile sauger? Hopefully BC will be by to give you a better ID.

The fish is a color phase of a yellow perch. Definitely not a walleye.

I will measure it tomorrow and post size. Guess: about 3"-4".
4 pictures of 2 different fish. I put both of them in the 550 gallon tank in my building.

Walleye reproducing and fry surviving to 4" in a regular pond is a very rare occurrence and some form of a miracle.

4.25" on the dot. Measured from very tip of head/face to tip of tail (not the fork).
I could only measure one...because they are crazy fast and I could not net the 2nd one and didn't want to inflict too much stress. Both have adapted very well to the tank. Get a little spooky when lights come on, but swims around through pvc pipes, ceramic pots, and around golf ball obtacle courses in a 4x8 tank.

I agree, 4" walleye would have been an amazing miracle for sure. I am hoping for what seems like an even larger miracle...catching a fish on rod/reel! Summer and fall (so far) fishing has been dismal at best! I have caught more crawdads on blade baits than total fish 6/2020-11/2020. Next year will be better

If that's a 4.25" YP in the pics, it's eating much better at that age than my YP do. Mine don't fatten up that much until they are 6"-7" long (apparently when they feel safe eating pellets or have learned to do so) - the smaller ones are usually skinny.

Exactly 4.25" and healthy. The pond is doing real well with fat and presumably happy fish. Gotta be lazy too because they do not chase fishing lures at all!
Both of the YP pictured relocated to my 550 gallon tank. I belive they are guilty of causing about a dozen small FHM to disappear. Trial still in deliberation. I have some 5"+ albino channel catfish in the same tank, but the minnows were fine with the catfish and only started disappearing after the YP additions...

Try feeding them some penny goldfish. It's a blast when loose orange scales go flying (swimming?) around afterwards.
