It was August 27th 2014 just 6 years ago, when Texas Congressman exposed the EPA's takeover plans through the Clean Waters ACT. And redefining dry land as protected wetlands where they would control all private ponds and lakes be redefining the term Waters of the United States. 2016 the Socialist agenda was stopped and those heavy fines of thousands of dollars per day on landowners that built ponds were stopped Will we have to go through this all over again ? I am concerned or I would not have brought this reminder up.

Hadn't even thought about that given all the stuff that's happened this year. But yeah, in a change in administration we would likely see a change in policy against many private ponds.

They can have my pond when they pry my cold, wet fingers from it.

Damn arthritis.

Landowners' rights are being eroded now by county governments, requiring permits to do practically anything on real property. Of course, fees are usually involved.

As far as I know, this takeover has been unchallenged.

Yup, but we have even greater issues to deal with in the world right now... Somehow, we need to find some common ground.

Those in high national positions will have to deal with world issues while I limit my concern to simple issues like 'property rights'.

I certainly hope that those leaders have a better understanding of what 'common ground', 'social justice' and other such lofty but nebulous terms mean than I do.

Frank, There is alot going on right now. But I felt like this needed to be added to the list of things that concern me should we go through a change in political administration at this time. My pond and my land. I worked hard to be able to pay for it. Isn't this the American dream ? After all things said Americans all have an equal opportunity to do so.

Rstringer, No guberment representative has come to your place and fined you $75,000.00 per day because you built a pond on your property. That really happened !! And was happening almost every day until the EPA socialist agenda was changed within a few short weeks after the 2016 election. So not being exposed to such things does not mean it didn't happen and it might happen again if the very same people are put back in office.

I agree Dudley! Permits are all about money and that is all it is! It is really not about any concerns, it's about money, period!

After being a member of the Pond Boss family for 6 yrs, i know we are not here to argue, or fight over politics but Like Eric said . Water is for fighting for, just like Theo, " When they pry my cold wet fingers from it",

Keep engaged, its like managing your pond,

As we can all see right now, and for the past few years, forum traffic has vastly slowed.

If we keep things civil, we should be OK.

Private property rights are the underpinning of our society. We've certainly seen Private Property rights be thrown to the wind in several cities around the USA. We can also see a 'movement' to make it amoral to defend private property.

Tracy it was never my intent to argue for sure. Here in Kansas in my county at least we don't even have to get permits to build a pond. When i called in the 1st place they laughed and said why the hell would you need one. I told them i was just covering my own ass is all. Also had them email me telling me i didn't need one. I'm most certainly on your side as far as rights go. Its my land no reason for them to worry bout it (within reason). I figured they would like it cause after we built it they raised my property taxes ggggrrrrr.

We are on thin ice so tread carefully.

One of the first things I became aware of in posting on a forum is just how easy it is to misunderstand what someone writes or to post something that may be understood differently than intended. It is almost impossible to be accurate and unemotional when writing as most of us are not professional writers . So read and write with a grain of salt . Politics (especially now) is the worst topic to try and discuss over a forum because it is so emotional and out of control. Just watch the news (not factual anymore, just opinion) for proof of the madness.

Having represented people in COE matters i have first hand knowledge of what happens . I do not discuss them here.

Off the soap box - thanks for understanding.

RStringer I did not intend for this discussion to cause any problems within this PBF. I was pretty sure pond owners would be on the same page but I could be wrong as I have been wrong before when talking about our ponds. Most everyone I know did just like RStringer and check with the laws or county agencies before we dug our first shovel of dirt. I guess I should not have posted my question? I was not sure if the grab by the epa was stopped by an executive order and could be easily reversed back through Presidential elections? I also have to be honest and say most anyone who reads my post can be pretty sure which side of the election I am leaning on. I am not hiding that.

TGW, you're good.

The Clean Waters Act is all important stuff.

It never offends me when someone trys to protect their land or family. Myself wasn't offended at all. It blows my mind that someone could be fined 75000 dollars ever let alone a day for a hole with water. I just thought we was all just talking. No harm no foul. Now Theo that might be going a little 2 far lol. To each their own.

No issues with me - just wanted to avoid any problems (head them off at the pass). Tracy most pond owners agree with you. Theo is right the Clean Water act is very important - it just often causes big problems when Uncle Sam wants to tell private owners what to do with their land. The problem is its discussion has caused the biggest problems we have had on the Forum - thus Bob's rule - no politics.

FYI - I have seen COE/EPA make million dollar lakes/ponds/developments be undone in addition to fines.

One of the things I like about the PBF is that you have a lot of people from different backgrounds, but for the most part everyone gets a long .

Ewest, who was that gentleman from Oregon that Bob had at the PB Conference one year that was thrown in jail because of collecting rainwater in his pond on his property?

His pond was even used by the Forest Service for a water supply to fight fires.....

Not up here, we have had 1/4" rain in the past 4 weeks....... My pond is down 60 vertical inches. About the lowest I've seen it since it was renovated in 2008.

And yet, my new pond site has a continual influx of water, which is great later, but tough during the build.
