Recently introduced some white flowered and yellow centered water lillies to my newly purchased lake (old gravel pit in Southwestern ,Ontario). I added these water lillies around two islands and a small clay outcrop in the main body of water in 2-3' of water depth. My question is most of the lake (old gravel pit) is only 5-7 feet deep, will these native water lillies move out into the deeper water and take over most of the lake that we plan to use for recreational use as well as future large mouth bass fishing. Or will the deeper water define the growth area for these white water lillies. Any help would be greatly appreciated or comments from people who already have this lilly. The lilly was taken from a pond that these lillies were growing in less than 4' of water depth. Thanks in advance.

My experience has been that the Pink Sensations & Red Attractions and some yellows stayed well behaved. But an aggressive whites I got out of a lake have grown out about 30 feet from the shore line and have spread all around my pond and I would guess they are growing in about 5 feet deep water. But that is what I want. I have never tried it but I would think lilies would be easy to kill back by just spraying the leaf tops. Amine 4 2,4-D is listed as usable in water for aquatic weeds and is very cheap.

Thanks John for your reply. I will see if they will evade the 5-7' water and if they start to I will get some 2/4/D to spray on the pads to see if this will eradicate them. In the future I will use only hybrid medium size water lillies to ensure that they don't go deeper than 4' of water depth.

John, I'm in North Texas Post Oak Country. I've tried to establish Lotus around the sides of my tanks and failed. How did you get your lillies going? Did you plant whole plants? If you did, how much root did you take? Or...Did you grow them from seeds. Thanks in advance.
