I am currently in charge of a 30 acre HOA lake that we have a 16 diffuser aeration system. The aeration system was installed to help mitigate a floating blue green algae problem called Stagnina. The 30 acre lake connects via small channel to a 40 acre PIT that is NOT aerated. On average the aerated lake will have visibility of 12"-18" while the non-aerated lake can have visibility of up to 6 feet.
Details: Max Depth Aerated lake is 30 feet, no thermocline is present in any portion of lake when aeration is running. Non-aerated lake has a distinct Thermocline around 18 feet where water temp drops to 55 degrees. Any ideas why the visibility in aerated lake is so poor, it constantly has a deep Olive color to it compared to the other lake which has a nice dark green color.

I'd be willing to bet that if you were to take a water sample from both BOW's and have them tested for nutrients you will find that the 30 ac HOA lake has a much higher nutrient load than the 40 ac PIT.
