Does anyone have experience with muck blocks? 75 percent of my bank is heavily treed and we get significant leaf coverage on the bottom. Have looked at a couple of these products as a possible way to clear some of the bottom area. Concerned because I can not find any information about which specific bacteria are part of the "beneficial bacteria" that makes up the block. Any advice appreciated.

There are those that would argue, the beneficial bacteria is already there in your pond and adding more, won't make much difference. Unless you add some aeration system to help it thrive. Then since aeration is the key, do you really need to add anything else? I agree, to a point.

If you don't have good aeration, save your money on additives until you get at least that.

In my opinion, the two together, work quite well. Not really sold on the blocks here, I like more of an even distribution, at the bottom, in the way that pellets offer. I was able to dissolve more than a foot of that stinky black sludge with the combination of the two, in just two years. It's possible aeration alone would have done it, I'm just not sure it would have been that fast.

Journeyman, can you make a recommendation in the area of pellets? Brand? dose? Many claims out there, not sure where to start, but sharing experience would be a plus!

I'm not sure the brand is as important as the type. There are pellets, liquids, powders, some sawdust looking stuff and now blocks, available in the market.

I really like the way the pellets get the product right into your target areas, at the dosage you want. Something about how they just wisp away into muck! And it works.

I haven't the brand I like advertise here lately, so I won't mention their name.
