In the process of draining my pond, I've found thousands of little critters living in the muck at the bottom. What are these? Are they beneficial?

Look like dragonfly nymphs.

@RAH, I think you are right.
They do look like dragonfly nymphs. So given that they eat mosquitoes once they mature into dragonflies, I would classify them as beneficial.

Called Naiad in "nymph" form. Yes, Dragonfly.
