First problem I have ever had in many years of use with my Texas Hunter feeder. Noticed just this morning The sound of the electric motor running just fine but did not sling ANY feed. I set it for test spin 3 different times. Each time the motor ran great (sounds like) but no food came out!! I put my hand in the slot in the front to hand spin it a little and there was a lot of food down there. Sounds like maybe a "shear pin" or something broke?? Any advise? Said battery is good and it must be because of the motor running so strong.

Flame, IIRC the TH has an allen head bolt holding the big spinner on. I had that happen several times when I had TH's, and it's just a process of elimination to figure out what it is. 90% of the time, it was a fully charged battery that couldn't handle the load, so I always started with a fresh new battery. Next, I'd unplug the top spinner so I could check the big blower motor without dumping more food in the hopper. Set the timer for a test throw, and watch the big motor and see if it's trying to spin but can't. If that's the case, then it's probably the battery. If it doesn't even try to spin, then it's probably the blower motor. You can always bench test it to see if it'll spin when it's removed from the feeder.

"If" you remove the motor, check the space between the blower housing, and the blower wheel itself. The tolerances are pretty tight, and fish food dust can accumulate in that space and cause the blower motor to work harder than it needs to, and cause the battery have to deal with a heavier load.

Here's a pic of the blower and housing. Short of removing the blower wheel, a thin bladed paint scraper will remove most of the crud. The fish food dust is the brown ring around the blower wheel, and it can accumulate behind the wheel itself.

James, I've had the blower fan get stuck when too many pellets got jammed together for whatever reason. Moisture can seep in during severe weather. Worth checking & clearing out if that's the issue. Can permanently damage the motor in some cases.

if u r depending on the built in solar charger to determine if the battery is good then don't. Mine showed that my battery was good and charging but it turned out my battery was bad. The motor ran but did not throw feed. After replacing the battery the TH feeder started working again.

I’ve had pellet jams that caused the problem.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Thank you everyone. I did go ahead and remove the lower motor and there was a good buildup of food dust in there. I guess it put a strain on the motor. I hooked the motor direct to a car battery and it would not even try to spin. I did contact TH company and they sent me another motor for $44 dollars and that included $18 for freight. Should be here tomorrow. Hope that solves it. I believe I have been using the feeder every single day for almost 5 years. Only previous problem was replacing battery about every 18 months!! Not bad. Thanks again for your help!

Update... I did a poor job bench testing my lower motor on my feeder. I replaced it with a new motor and still doesn't work. I went back and made darn sure I got a good connection and bench tested the lower motor again and ….it WORKED!! So I called TH Feeder and they said the TIMER has a relay or something in it that sends the power to the lower motor! Sooo I had to pay a little but the timer was just under warranty. Replaced it today and everything works GREAT. Other than a $18 upper motor I have a complete rebuilt feeder now!! I cleaned all the old food gunk that had built up in places while waiting for parts to arrive. I must say it sounds like a brand new feeder again! Thought this might help someone who may be troubleshooting their feeder. Don't overlook the timer!!

Way to go, James! I had some issues with a feeder today, but turned out that even the "new" battery was defective.
