Alright.....I have done a lot of research and it seems the syphon system is overall better for pond health? I want to manage it for trophy bass, and I just want to make sure it would be a good set up for my pond. The contractors are starting Monday and ordering the pipe tomorrow. I have a creek that has never went dry in 4 years of us owning the property and has never really risen either. The water gets a little swift during a heavy rain, but the creek channel definitely doesn’t seem overwhelmed. It’s roughly 55-60 acres of watershed (mostly wooded) and the pond is going to be around 1.5 to 1.75 acres when completed. Pond dam piping chart recommended a 10 inch pine on a syphon system with that much run off and with a bold stream. I want to make sure we have enough, so I would like to go with 12 inch pipe just for added measure. My question is....would this set up definitely be better than a conventional system? It is definitely cheaper, but I ultimately want what works best. Thanks in advance for your help!

I put a conventional pipe over flow in my pond, coming out of a drop inlet box and then a pipe carrying the water out of it, I got it too close to the bank and now I have a problem when it overflows it absolutely skims thousands of YOY fry out the overflow, you can stand there and watch them go, sux, I have a drain flow pipe out the bottom of the pond, 4", but in 15 surface acres of water it takes a while to lower the water level, only several inches a day, but Ive been letting it run this spring a good bit and leaving the water level about a ft below pool so that when we do have a rain event it doesn't do the fry skimming thing, also the water draining out from the deep part of the pond, 30 ft deep, has a nasty septic smell so I am convinced it is better to release it then the surface water. So I guess I guess I wish I had spent the extra dollars and did a siphon over flow system.
All the really good ideas I've ever had came to me while I was milking a cow.
