Lots of good info on the pondboss, thanks y'all! I've learned that I've got lots to learn for sure. Bought some land a while back with a small bout .25 acre pond that was basically used as a livestock watering hole. It's rectangular shaped with trees on 3 sides. Not sure how deep but I've never seen it get too low over the last 2 1/2 years. I've never seen, caught or even had a bite from a fish in there. It's usually completely covered by the good ol' green slime by early May til late October making it unfishable. The plan is to expand it to probably about an acre in size. I need to find a contractor around here that actually knows what they're doing, most say they've built ponds and it is usually just a livestock watering hole. I saw John Fitzgerald isn't too far from me so I'll likely reach out to him. Looking forward to learning more! Also, every time I click on a jpeg attachment to see posted pics, I just get a white screen, any advice?

So, what is the cause of the green scum?

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

I'm really not sure. I think John had posted in another thread that all of the ponds in this area with clear water get covered in FA and my pond is pretty clear. My "not really knowing what I'm doing" plan was to drain it, dig the other and connect them, add structure/cover, fill and begin stocking process and address the FA issues if they come back either through chemical or aeration (obviously after more research).

My first pond was super clear the first three years. The second pond was muddy after the first year. Now they are both muddy all the time. The FA in the first pond is all gone except around the edges. I think there is an over abundance of crawdads, and they keep the water stirred up. The ponds are now too muddy for the bass to see and control them effectively. The sediment pond has no crawdad predators, and it is much muddier than the other two. Crawdads are the only common denominator I can think of. Even the few CC I still have don't control them. The ponds are on "crawdad land", and there are mounds all around the pond areas.
