I have decided to treat my bluegill bacterial/fungus outbreak (fin rot, red spot disease)with antibiotics and the preferred treatment is with a product called Terramycin 200 for fish. However, I can't find it anywhere online. (probably because it only comes in 50lb bags) It seems that every other antibiotic is available except terramycin. (at least in a powder) Any idea where I could get some? I need about 25 grams worth. (1g/lb feed)
Thanks

Walmart has tablets online. I think Oxytetracycline is the generic name, but most of the places that carry it only have the ointment.

Might try feed stores or a poultry supply business. We used to give Terramycin to chickens when they were sick.

If you know a vet they can probably get you powdered antibiotic in large quantities for cheaper than online.

I have no idea which fish antibiotic is best but there are some options here in both capsules and powder

You can make homemade medicated feed using the Terramycin as described here by Bob Lusk and a few others. Maybe Goggle the topic: Pond Boss Forum - subject. However when one has 'sick' fish it is screaming signal that the pond has water quality issues or fish are too crowded and their health is compromised / stressed which why they are sick. Correct the actual cause and the population will recover naturally.

Agreed, however, I have no idea what the stressor is/was. I only stocked in March and July of 2018 so is is possible that I have already reached capacity? I know that the BG have spawned several times as I see many size classes represented. I also have seen 6" LMB so they have obviously spawned as well. Was it that? Late summer high temps? I just don't know.

Are all the BG sick? Just a few? What % affected? What sizes? Just largest BG infected?. Have any of BG been caught or handled this fall?

Thanks Bill.
Id say 40% or so, around the feeder anyway. It appears to be mostly the largest BG. The only ones I have handled were about 40 or so that I caught and salt water dipped last month. Other than that, I haven't fished or caught any. I have an email into a veterinarian at the local Vet School who specializes in aquatic issues so I am anxious to see what he has to say. I'll update when I hear back from him.
Thanks!

A likely possibility is some of those BG caught and salt dipped became ill and then infected others that were somewhat under a stressor. Current healthy fish are obviously healthy enough producing enough slime layer to avoid infection. What I don't know is how much body interaction there is among aggressive BG at a feeder. Close body to body contact of lots of aggressive fish could cause loss of slime layer??? Loss of slime layer for whatever reason is practically a death sentence for a fish.
