Some green stuff has shown up on my 4 acre pond. I don't fertilize the lake, and I don't recall seeing algae blooms of this nature in previous years.

The pond is in West Central Alabama. For the past 2 weeks, temperatures have exceeded 90 degrees nearly every day. I'm wondering if this could be blue-green algae. Can anyone provide some insight on what kind of algae this is? If it is blue-green algae, is this automatically a bad thing?

Any help will be much appreciated. Here's a link to the algae pics:

Sorry may not be much help because I am no expert, even after seeing many different blooms in my pond here in E Texas. It looks to me to be pollen floating on the water. May need better pics.

Thanks for the reply. I won't rule out pollen as a possibility.

Very likely not pollen, 99% sure it is algae. Capture some of it 2/3 to 3/4 full in a water bottle. Cap it for a few hours then uncap and smell the air above the water. If it smells pretty bad it is bluegreen algae. Not much smell green algae.

I did the jar test and the algae sunk to the bottom of the jar after a night in the fridge. That means its the good algae! It is spreading fast. I'm happy my pond is having a bloom without me fertilizing. Here's a pic from yesterday.
