Tell us a little about your pond. How much vegitation? What fish do you have stocked?
My guess is you have alot of weedy vegitation in the pond. And I would also venture a guess that your preditory fish (bass?) could use a boost.
Thick weeds in the pond encourage snakes by offering cover for ambushing their prey. It also offers cover from the snakes predators. IE: birds, Racoons, Mink, ect. Decrease the cover & you decrease the population of snakes.
A well balanced pond (fish populations) will also help keep snakes in check not only by eating the young snakes but by reducing the snakes food source.
Also if you're a good shot & don't take shots at low angles an air rifle or .22 with cb caps would work .. no noise.
