Hello!

I've recently started working in Permaculture and land regeneration projects. You can't turn green without first being blue (water wink

We are currently surveying land and looking to install ponds to harvest rainwater that is otherwise running off a barren landscape. As the property is a blank canvas it makes sense to design a clever efficient water system using contours and keyline if possible to harmonise with the landscape and create beautiful wildlife habitat and introduce marine life.

As a pond NEWBIE I'm here to learn from your experiences and ask a lot of questions :p Have spent a considerable amount of time reading and watching youtube tutorials on various types of pond/dam constructs which has been helpful. Previously we have installed ponds so this isn't the first dig at building water harvesting structures. (pun intended)

Will post a separate thread with design brief for your advice and feedback.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Andy.
Good luck with your pond building enterprise.
I took the Permaculture design course under zany Bill Mollison in the early 90s. My pond has benefitted from my incorporating some Permaculture techniques, especially installing swales on grade to greatly increase the drainage area feeding runoff to the pond.
This is a great forum and you'll learn much.

Swales are fantastic yet quite often misunderstood and applied in situations where they aren't always necessary. This project I'm undertaking will largely benefit from swales as it is arid and almost flat land.

Thank you for the welcome,

cheers

Andy,
Flat sites are challenging. I'm sure the design guys would appreciate some photos of your site.
Regards.

Hey mate,

I've started a thread that contains a contour map as a starting point.

Thread : http://forums.pondboss.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=481074#Post481074

Will get some updated pics - going back next week. There was about 100mm rain in a few days and the landscape will show definite signs/patterns of water runoff etc... that I hope to use as clues to a final design.

See you on the other thread smile
cheers
A
