I have a 1 acre pond here in Ontario Canada. The pond is 16 feet in the middle and gets deep very quickly as it used to be an old quarry. The pond is very old and is full of many different types of animals. It has about four large snapping turtles. Also has many frogs crayfish minnows and tons of leeches. The reason we want to put fish in is because we want to fish them and get rid of the leechs. There Are also lots of different types of waterbugs. We want to put in largemouth bass. The pond has plenty of vegetation as well as a area where I think the bass could lay eggs according to my research. The pond is also used for swimming. I'm wondering how many bass should I put in the pond and will they ever overpopulated. Also will they fix my leech problem. I've talked to a few pond Specialist and they both say that that bass would be good. Can the bass sustain themselves in this pond? I have attached a few photos of the pond it may even be a little bit bigger than an acre.

Thanks

I'm thinking it would be bet to establish a food chain before you put in the bass. Those bass will make work work of the leeches and then you'll have small stunted bass. I might opt for smallmouth bass that likely won't breed as prolifically as largemouth. Maybe some pumpkinseed or sunfish that also is not too prolific to provide forage and some type of minnow or shiner first to provide a base. You have depth, maybe a few walleye and yellow perch to round it out.

I would not just add bass.

There are already many minnows and i think the snappers will keep the fish at a good level. Also dont bass eat frogs and bugs? Thanks for your help

Fyfer123, if you only added LMB the forage you have would only last them 1-3 years depending on the length you put them in at. Also to my knowledge snapping turtles will not get any of your bass.
