Need some help trying to decide on adding a siphon system to my existing pond. I'm currently using a 12" through pipe towards the top of the dam. Works well but I've read a lot about benefits of the siphon systems and need to move the outlet soon anyway.
In my case I have a lot of floating algae and basically too much nutrients in the water. Pond is spring fed and flows year round so I think the through pipe is helping draw the excess nutrients out off the top.
Does a siphon system still make sense in this case if there's no lack of nutrients? Also any suggestions on plants to help suck up some of the excess nutrients?

two cent4s here...
I would use a syphon pipe to hydroelectric production system. It would remove the bottom water, and produce electricity. There are permits to get, but the process is doable.
Cleaning out the dead bottom water is a good thing.

That would be a cool idea. Could use the electric to run an aerator, lights, etc. Not sure I have enough volume of water at all times to make it worth while though.
