I purchased property in NC and it has 2 ponds, both less than an acre each. That being said, I moved in a few days ago, my dad (who was helping with the move) caught a nice Bass. We guestimated about 6 pounds. I caught a couple more 2+ pounds myself.

As far as I know it is a spring fed pond, dammed with an overflow pipe, max depth 6 feet. Based on dragging bottom it does have some clay, chunk rock, algae and some brush that has fallen in from the wood line.

I would like to get a better idea of the population and species in there, what do you think a .5-.75 acre pond can hold for population?

Is it worth investing in adding bluegill, crawfish forage to grow the bass population and increase relative size of the current bass population?

Thanks for your thoughts.

With bass that size they will probably eat any new small fish. Can you have a big pond and a bass pond?

With bass that size and such full rounded bellies, I can't help but think that there is some type of forage fish in there already unless the previous owners were feeding them. I'd say get out the little hooks and worms and test for BG populations. You may just be set up for awhile!

Thanks guy's. I did see some bait flickering on the surface at the south end so I am guessing there is some forage in there. I'll try and test out the BG population with some lighter gear.
