Hello All,

This is my first post as I am in the market for some property with an existing pond that I can enjoy for recreational fishing. I have recently looked at a property in Anderson County, TX near Elkhart. The property is 13 acres with an existing pond that is fed by a natural spring and dammed up. The property is perfect for what I am looking for, except I have several concerns about the existing pond and dam. The pond is approximately 3/4 acre in size and the seller mentioned that they just stocked it with whatever they caught in nearby lakes and streams.....this is concern No. 1. The second concern is that the dam has very mature trees growing on the top and backside. The trees I would estimate to be ~25 years old. My limited research suggests that dams and trees are enemies.

To get to my point.....I am looking for experinced pond/dam builders in my area (near Elkhart, TX) to accompany me to the property so the integrity of the dam can be assessed. I'm hoping someone can recommend a "pond consultant" who may accompany me to view the property and provide some suggestions/recommendations as to what may be done to fix any problems (for a fee of course). Has anyone ever done this before when purchasing land with an existing pond. I appreciate any and all feedback, as I am new at this and don't want to end up purchasing something that would be more expensive to repair than to start from the beginning and do it properly. I just want to do my homework first.....

I'll try to upload some photos once I figure out how to do so.

Thanks!!

kbh229, welcome to the forum!! This site is owned by the two guys you want, Bob Lusk, pond manager extraordinaire, and Mike Otto, best pond builder we know of! If both are too busy, they will know who can help!

We had Mike Otto out for that exact same reason
when we purchased our property in 2012.

I also had Mike Otto come down to my property before we purchased it. My objective was to get his opinion on the feasibility of renovating and expanding a very old pond on the property. I was very pleased with his input and highly recommend him.
