Hello all. I have been reading PB Forum for months now and I now have a few questions of my own. I recently finished construction on my 1 acre pond. I stocked FHM about 3 to 4 weeks ago. I now have tons of baby fish about 1/4 to 1/2 inch long. Is it possible they are FHM fry? My neighbor has another 1/4 acre pond upstream that overflows down the creek to my new pond when it rains. Is it more likely that the small fish are baby LMB or BG fry from that pond? Thanks guys.

It is very unlikely the baby fish are LMB. The are either fry of BG or FHM. If you catch some in a net, pu them in a zip loc bag with a little water and photograph the as a clear close-up picture we can tell you what they are either BG or FHM.

It is almost a certainty they are FHM fry. FHM egg gestation is only 5 days and as fractional spawners, females lay several thousand eggs a year. Lifespan is about a year also and the fry reach full size in about 90 days or so.

This sounds like it could be good news. I will head to the land and get some pics of the baby fish and post them. I will try to have a picture for you guys in the next couple of hours.

If the upstream pond overflows directly into your pond, you will have every fish species that pond has, in time, also.
