I had the City of Bloomington do a limited water analysis. Results: C.O.D. 19
Hardness 62 mg/l
ph 7.6
e-coli 7/100ml

This is a 30 ac. lake, average depth 8 feet and 18 years old.
LMB is the goal. Rain water fed from woods and pasture. No grain farming.

Do I need to add lime above and/or in the lake? Or do I need an alkalinity test first?

Also, is there a list of all the acronyms used on this site. I can get some of them...LMB, SMB, etc... but some are strange. Or could someone make such a list for us dumbies/newbies?

Thanks.

I'm sure no expert, but envy you the hardness and pH levels. Mine are around 30 and 5.6, far worse than yours.

Would be surprised if you need liming, though of course more knowledgeable folks may have a different view!

With a hardness of 62 I would want to know total alkalinity. You may not need lime. 30 acres is a lot to lime !

What did I done do here??? LOL

Ag Lime application rates are based on what is needed. from a water/soil analysis, if anything is needed at all.

With the above said...ain't much that you will do on a 30 acre BOW that will be cheap!

Ag Lime can be applied to large waters by boat....and not inexpensively...lol

Rainman....enjoyed your reply.
Maybe I can get enough leaching from the Indiana rocks to add to my rain water lake!!!!

Frugal people have a hard time spending money on a lake for fishing. But I am working on it!

As always, thanks for the reply and to all of Pond Boss, this is the best place to come and talk.

I did two different test strips. They agreed with the Bloomington on hardness and ph and showed at least 100 on the total alkalinity. So, I believe the strips are correct on the total alkalinity. Assuming that total alkalinity is at least 100, what do you think? ok as is, or should I throw in a few tons of lime? Thanks for sharing.

OK as is but keep monitoring. Above 20 ppm is ok up to 200 ppm which is ideal for pond fish.
