I have a new pond probably a bit larger than an acre, 13.5 feet deep at full pool near the dam, pretty steep banks but I don't know an "average" depth. Located in NE Tx in a wooded, wind protected area with a lot of runoff and a low flow spring that figures to keep water flowing out of the overflow pipe except during the summer. Irregularly shaped, like a squash. I am planning on aeration and looking for advice on what type. Bottom diffusion seems to be the best choice from what I'm reading but a local aquaculture guy I have been speaking with advised against it citing higher cost, more difficult install, and more difficult maintenance. He sells fountains and cites a lot of experience with them in this area and their track record in preventing fish kills. I like the aesthetic option of a fountain but just oxygenating the upper layer of the water doesn't make much sense to me and I have concerns about erosion in my small pond. What do you say?

Go to the Pondboss.com homepage, choose the Resources tab and then choose the aeration category. Lots of info and links. Here is an example http://www.vertexwaterfeatures.com/pond-aeration
