Guys, Can ya'll give me some ideas on what brand works best? How much for a 1 acre pond that is an average of 7 ft and how long does it usually last before having to put more? How do you know what color or shade your getting? Do I need to wait till the pond is at 50% pool or higher? Thanks,
1 1/4 acre L shaped pond, 6 to 9 ft deep. Finished 7/7/16. Stocked with LMB, HBG, BG, CNBG, RES, FHM. Can't wait to fish it. GO SAINTS!!!
I have some questions about that as well. What is your reasoning for yours? I believe I have some FA and think maybe that would help control it some in the shallower areas. I'm sure the experts will chime in.
I want to have pretty clear water. I will have LMB and CNBG and want the water to be certain clarity just not sure how to get it there or how much to use.

I'm not an expert by any means, and being unsure about the depth of your "shallower areas" but my understanding is that the dye may be ineffective on FA at depths of 2' or less.
From what I understand is it blocks light from the deeper portions of the pond to keep sunlight from promoting weed growth and keeping those disgusting blobs of floating gunk from covering a large portion of the surface after sunny wind-free days. The floating blobs are algae + plant debris brought to the surface via O2 bubbles formed by photosynthesis.
We use pond Logic liquid pond dye. There are three different shades and we use the natural Blue.
I buy four bottles and use only two per year. We have had very good luck with this product and running our aeration at night. Cooler water and the dye keeps the FA at bay.
Here is a picture of the water colour. On a cloudy day its more of a green but on a clear bright day it is really blue/turquoise
NEDOC, This was one thread on it that came up in a search but it seems (memory is like wearing the wrong glasses, things get fuzzy) like there was another one more recently with updated pictures.
Yes that is the tread. Next year I will put on more potato vine in green. The dark purple potato vine didn't spread out like the green but it is flowering little violet flowers.
All the grasses will come back next year and I will leave the island in all winter.
Dono, That is a beautiful pond. Do you have those rocks all the way around the edge? Must have cost a fortune but damn it sure looks nice?
The rock is what they call 4" medium crushed concrete. The material cost only $1000 Canadian. It is about 8"-12"s deep for about 12 feet in length to about 5 feet of water depth.
It really keeps the water alkalinity up too. Crayfish just love the product and every rock will have one if not two under it.
Cheers Don.
See the flatend out ledge from the back of the hoe bucket? That is what was all done with stone.
