Hey Scott,
Roundup is not approved for Pond use. There is a product called Rodeo that is a glyphosate product that I understand is ok for pond use. I have no idea if glyphosate is effective on FA. I use a copper based herbicide, Cutrine Plus, for FA.

i have used cutrine in the past and had good luck with it. this guy that told me about using a regular herbicide actually works for a large pond management company.

I see where this is going, suggest referencing this thread when talking about anything not approved for pond use. It was discussed quite EXTENSIVELY in this thread and NOT recommended or condoned. Nuisance Willows

Thing about this is if it says "Tested for Pond use" that should mean it's safe for all living things pond. If used in the right amount.
Roundup may kill FA but what is it doing to the rest of the pond? It hasn't been tested or made for that so who knows what it is doing to ALL the other aquatic life in the pond? There is no telling without extensive testing....

Glysophate based herbicides such as Roundup, Rodeo, ShoreKlear etc will not kill filamentous algae (FA). Glysophate mode of action is designed for plants with leaves and stems which require the chemical to be on the leaves, be absorbed for a minimum time, before being rinsed off. If FA died after using glysophate something else killed the algae not the glysophate.
glysophate -Mode of Action: Once absorbed by the plant, glyphosate binds to and blocks the activity of the enzyme enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS). Since the active site of the EPSPS enzyme is highly consistent in higher plants, glyphosate affects a broad spectrum of weeds indiscriminately. Filamentous algae is not a higher plant and since it lives in a water environment it is very hard to get the chemical to be absorbed by the algae in high enough concentration to kill the algae.

And folks that answers the question! Besides copper based algaecides, I think hydrothol is the only other thing that will touch it, but I'm not 100% sure, and I'm not sure it will touch all types of algae.
