I used to catch GSH with a #12 hook and a piece of corn. I'd squeeze the seed out of the kernel so I was left with the "skin" and they would hammer it on the drop.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around 1/80 oz.

Shot water temps this AM. Surface temp is 79 in the big pond, and 75 in the little pond. Time to start spraying.

I took advantage of a friday off with perfect weather. Transplanted about 15 gallons (5 - 3 gallon bucket fulls) of this today. Put it along the bank that wasnt grow grass yet. I keep moving dirt every chance I get. I keep changing the contour of the bank. Tilling up the dirt and moving it was t allowed it to grow anything but I think I'm done 4 the year. This stuff seems to transplant really easy. I have been racking some sections of big chunks all year.

I went to a few places and the best I've came up with so far is 1/64, which I did get. Do you think they will do? Is it the size of the hook or the weight that is important, or both? I could always file a little off the weight if it would help? I did also get 2 flies that are 1/80 and can cut the stuff off of them if they would be better? They have green heads.

1/64 oz will work, it's the size of the hook and piece of nightcrawler that matters, smaller is better for catching GSH. I've caught SMB up to 18" on the 1/80 oz jig.

Day 2 of my new pond is complete. It's amazing how much they've cleared with just a skid steer and a small track hoe (so far). Here are the before and after pics:

Thanks Shorty, does it matter if it's a nightcrawler or worm?

As long as I can get Stubby Steves, I won't mess with live bait.

Not yet but I figured I would start something when it gets closer to being finished, similar to what Quarter Acre did with his pond log. But you’re right, I can barely contain my excitement!

Wow Pat, I've never gotten that much rain in a month let alone 3 days. I'm probably lucky if I've gotten that much over 2 months.

Pat, there always seems to be a trade off. 2 miles is a lot of road.

I am attempting to get winter food plots up and running but it needs to dry out before i can get to some of the areas. Also scheduled for a Pine tree select cut, but its to wet to get to about half of the trees. Plans were to use that money for forage pond and solar setup. But i also needed the ran for the pond to fill up from the summer level drop. We usually get the rains in late Sept or in Oct. so it is a little early this year.

Had some family n friends over yesterday. Before everyone got in it was the clearest iv ever seen it. By the time 10 or so people swam in for several hours it was back to very murky again. This morning its noticable better.

Went fishing yesterday morning. The fish are lure shy so used a Stubby Steve and caught a real monster BG. Due to water temps, I rarely fis at this time of year. But, we have some cool nights and the water had cooled.
