With a deluge of rain/runoff last night the pond is up 3-4' and at full pool, looks like a debris field and muddy as,,,, well chocolate soup.
Would leaving the system on allow the particles to stay suspended longer, or would shutting down the aeration system for a few days (or more) speed up the process for it to settle?
Recap: 2 acres, 80% 5' deep, 20% 9'. 1 deep diffuser, 3 shallow (all dual membrane Vertex).
Advantages, disadvantages, ideas, input?
Thanks in advance!

Keith,
FWIW before I added all the erosion control measures, I had chocolate soup after every heavy rain. Shutting down my aerator for a couple three days seemed to really speed up the clearing process.

Will your muddy water kill off any aquatic vegetation or an algae bloom?

Thanks guys! Bill D. that's helpful to know. I think I'll do just that for a few or three days . And more rain is expected tonight! Shorty, I have no aquatic vegetation but it's a good possibility on the algae bloom. And maybe doing this will also answer the question if my system is what's causing the turbid water to begin with. I had thought it was the oversized GC with nothing to eat stirring it up. So if no one sees any harm in shutting down for a few/several days, I'll see what happens.

Well, seeing that the goal is to leave it as you found it, I don't think shutting it off for a few days will hurt.
If it does, then you just sped up the process!!

Scott, if there's even a chance for a fish kill or even a high stress situation (which is what I really wanted to know), I'm not ready for that! I have a lot of harvesting/fish fry's in my near future .
