I'm drilling a water well next to my pond so that I can keep a constant water level. We have had a extreme dry season this summer. Has anyone used the method and have they had any sucess? Thank You for any suggestions!!!!!

I didn't know there were Italians in Arkansas!
How big is your pond and what are the shoreline slopes like? Also, what is your soil type? How deep will the well be and how high are the electrical rates?
Holding a redear sunfish is like running with scissors.

Hi Tony I have an 80 ft well that I use to try and keep the pond topped off during the summer. It is a slow well so I am only able to pump part of the time and had to design control circuitry to shut the pump off when it pumps down and then restarts when the casing is full. Right now I am able to pump about 6-7 thousand gallons per day but a few weeks ago I was down to about 3 thousand. So it really depends on how much water you hit.

I use a 4 inch well exclusively from March to the end of October 24/7 to keep my water cool enough in my small 1/10 acre trout pond and to keep the water fresh as it is a flow through pond. My electric bill is about $100.00 per month but to top a pond off you would not have to run 24/7. I pump about 38 gpms and my well is at 88 feet. You should be able to get all the information you want from you well driller if he is familar with the area and had been drilling wells for some time. If you're really lucky you could have flowing artesian well potential and that would preclude any pumping! How large is your pond?
If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

I drilled a 4" well before I dug my pond in June of this year. It's 250' deep with a 5hp pump, puts out around 50gpm, and I ran it 24/7 for almost two months to fill the pond. In north Florida, we haven't had any rain either, so I run it as long as it takes to keep the water level up. As far as success goes, unless you have a lot of rain, a lot of runoff, or a spring, a well is the only thing there is too keep the water up that I know of.
