Do you recommend having an engineering study done before construction? I am in an area notorious for leaking lakes.

I think a dirt mover can still build a bad pond even with an engineering study.

Find a guy that is known for constructing ponds that hold water.....

Case in point. Well, sorta. Guy I know is having a pole barn built with living quarters in it. Radiant heat in the concrete floor. There are detailed plans on what goes where.

Plumber had to re-co the plumbing in the ground twice before the concrete was poured, THEN it was pointed out that the toilet drain was STILL too far away from the wall... Not by a fraction of an inch, by inches...........

I guess that's why he's a plumber and not a framer - can't read a ruler or plans.

I recommend your calling Mike Otto at Otto's Dirt Service and letting Mike's experience guide you....none better out there!

You may also want to buy his book in the library here called "Just Add Water".

Ronnie, only loam(mix of clay and dirt) holds water properly. If you have sand and/or rocks you could have problems. I don't know the soils in your area.

I would buy Mike Otto's book Just Add Water. It costs $29.95 and can save a lot more than that.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.
