They have been at our place for the last 3 weeks. The last freeze that we had pretty much killed off the last of the Tilapia I believe. We had Buzzards all around our Pond for several weeks feasting on the dieing Tilapia. And then one day as I was driving home crossing the dam I noticed an eagle just sitting on the bank eating Tilapia. I'm not sure if they are just Migrating through and we are seeing several different Eagles or if 2 are trying to nest on our pond. Either way, I'm good with it. They are pretty to watch.

took awhile for tilapia to freeze out, warmer than usual winter?

I guess if they were blues they would still be alive?

Yes, Above average winter. Weve only had a few times that it has gotten to 30 degrees this winter and it has warmed up fairly quickly after that. I'm not sure if they are all dead or not.
I don't think that any tilapia will survive once water temps get below 50 degrees

Blues are 45, I think that's why you can not stock them in TX which makes sense. . Florida is loaded with them in all our waterways pretty much up to the GA line.

Funny thing is in FL the blues can be had with out permit, the ones with less of a chance of survival you need a permit.

David,
I never expected to see the Bald Eagles @ my place. Two showed up, like yours, they showed up when the Tp were dying, I posted a phone video of them here, but was not a real good picture. One is still checking the pond out, I saw him a couple days ago, and its been about a month since the Tp die off. Because of the Eagle, I now keep my little dog a little closer as we walk the pond together. happy for you having the eagles around, it's cool

We saw one coming to a dead pig carcass. It stood much above the buzzards. They are magnificent

I saw two buzzards humping on the side of the road yesterday...It was really odd....

It is amazing how quickly the birds can find an easy meal. They probably saw those struggling TP from miles away and came to check it out.

Same here, We keep a lot closer eye on our dog. I have some pen raised mallards that stay on my pond. I noticed this morning that one was missing. Hopefully hes not eagle poop now.
