This is the first time that I can't seem to get even a bite. Even using live minnows. Last winter which was colder I could catch crappie all around even in shallow water.. Now nada. Vis is 18" got any ideas?

There are times when there is just nothing happening. Happens all the time in Bill Ds head and Cecil has his moments.

Aaaa ha ha ha Tee he he......

I found feeding late in the fall I get nothing all winter. Once I see about 45 degrees the perch start at it and you can't keep them off the hook.

Outside of the temperature, other 'weather' conditions affect the bite???

High pressure, cold fronts, etc?

Excerpt from Robert Crais' "The Monkey's Raincoat:"
"She took another microscopic bite of her sandwich, then pushed it away. Maybe she absorbed nutrients from her surroundings."

I'm sure you've already tried this but FWIW with lower visibility, I would try the blacks and other dark baits. And of course, you need to be fishing just a bit above the crappies cause they mostly come from below to wack their prey. I doubt actually bumping a jig on the bottom would be very productive.

I know that everyone says that they rise to a bait but the last few I caught were on the bottom.... Not moving it all right on the bottom in 15' water.....

When I get the new topper on my truck, you can hang out there, but only ask that you keep it somewhat tidy, and when I need a tool on a project that will be bunking with you, you hand it to me thru one of the windows.

Seems reasonable to me wink laugh

Nice topper...heaven on wheels.
Phil, thanks for the offer but doubt I could adjust to such luxurious accommodations.
Cecil you're showing your punkness. It's spelled geezer.
It's funny, I been crackin on folks here for a decade and had very little support. I call Bill and Cecil punks and I'm appreciated.

I can catch fish at our place in cold, overcast, and murky water conditions, but only if I pick two out of the three.

Cold, overcast, AND murky water, I find something else to do. It really puts me in a corner -- murky water and overcast means I have to use darker colors and more action than fish like in cold water just so they can find the bait.

Pat, Don't know if this makes a difference or not but you know I am still feeding every evening. I am catching fish every day. Have you tried throwing any food out in prime evening times even if by hand in your feeders location just to see if you get any response? Maybe get them back on the feed and they will be easier to catch??

Pat, sounds to me like the crappie are scattered or not bunched up. In the lakes I fished for crappie, we would freshen up our brush tops using willow tops, tried other brush, but willows worked best. By freshening up the brush, it would bring the crappie in. I would also try Tbar's cotton seed cake and would add it to the new brush tops, after all what could it hert? And I always did better when I fished on Bluebird days when fishing for crappie, they headed to brush piles on those days, I guess they liked the shade of the brush piles.

OK, TG did ya happen to see any willow leaves in the bellies when ya cleaned the fish? I ask because once a friend caught a bunch of nice YP on the last ice and they were full if Willow leaves. Don't know how they even found green willow leaves after months of hard water. Never made any sense to me but I saw pics.
