Ever since my uncle said he would help pay and let me do stuff to the lake my mind has been going crazy, I have caught the itch.
One thing I have been thinking about is a small shallow water estuary of sorts. Sometime since we've had the lake there was a beaver that mad his home in it, the beaver is long gone but his footprint is still here. He dug out a part of our bank I would guess 20 or 30 ft long and about 5 ft wide, well since he's been gone the plants have been running wild and it's probably the thickest shore weeds we have around the whole lake. Now what if I used my uncles mini excavator to dig out a little? I would like to see two small pools 1-2 feet deep with space for the weeds to grow, throw in a couple rocks (would river rocks be good? I have a pile on the property I could use) I have drawn a sketch to kind of show what I mean.
The light green is where I would dig into the bank, the brown is where the shallows would extend before the slope to the deep. I would also like to add maybe a small brush pile on the slope.
I am not a pro but IMHO It might provide additional habitat for small critters but I would worry it could be a mosquito breeding ground once the vegetation filled it up. Now if you could figure out how to limit the vegetation and put lots of rocks, that would be a different story.
What if I dug 3 ft in the bigger pool put 6 to 10 inches of river rock and the other pool 2 and a half and add 8 inches of gravel. With both having their rocks run from the pool to about 3 ft of water, Maybe 1 - 1.5 ft wide? Sorta shape It like a spoon
