Fall is in the air here. 40's at night, tomatoes have stopped producing and I'm thinking I need to start bringing the firewood I cut last fall to the racks close to the house and start cutting for next year. Have to admit I am looking forward to the smell of wood smoke in the air and a nice fire in the fireplace. I took a little time today to make sure the fireplace is all ready to go. Summer sure did fly by for me. Guess I am getting old. Still a little summer left as we are supposed to see some temps in low 80's again this week but the air just smells like fall...even a few trees with leaves changing colors already!

The past few yrs I've limited myself to three seasons. Each change brings my favorite one. Gotta love the smell of Hickory in the fall, shroom hunting and Spring Peepers in May and baking on the sand in the hot. It's all good....well ya can keep anything under freezing and wet sloppy snow. I HAVE gotten old!!
Do nature a favor, spay/neuter your pets and any weird friends or relatives.

Thanks for the reminder Bob. Boxelder shrooms will be popping soon!
Finally broke out the long sleeve T-shirts this morning and with a little luck mother nature will give us a nice, long fall but the weather folks are saying don't bet on it.

It was a clear & cool 58° in SE Texas this a.m....no wind, just absolutely gorgeous...we got a lot of work done around the place without even breaking a sweat. Days like today give a fella some gratitude. Hopefully, fall is just around the corner. ..
Turned into an awesome day here as well Charlie. Blue sky and low 70's. Picked up all the FA I skimmed/harvested from the pond a week or so ago and had drying on the shore (made me think of the pioneers picking up buffalo chips for their fires!). Put it in the compost pile for the garden. My wife enjoyed wandering around with our little 585 filling the FEL with rocks from the rough grade before they are covered with top soil this week.
Start pushing those migrating waterfowl south baby! The freezer is low and needing some replenishment! T Minus 6 months to official retirement! Can't wait!
High temps in the 60's to high 50's is the 10 day forecast. Saw two of my CC up on the bank this afternoon sunning themselves to keep warm. Fall is here! Can't wait to see my puddle with snow all around and NO PILES OF DIRT obstructing the view!
Leaves are changing fast, and already dropping. Our squirrels are frantic, cutting everything in sight, even during the middle of the day. Wonder if they know something I don't.

last night when I was out messing around with the pond it was 84 degress with 88% humidity and no wind = dripping sweat. Giant mosquitos are abundant due to the very wet seaon we have been having.
I guess Ill have to wait until January to get my fall weather.

Supposed to be 38°F here tomorrow morning for the opener or archery deer season with a North to North East wind. 7 MPH at daybreak, 15 mph during the day.

Drahts, last evening around 5:30pm I took a spot on the hill beside the pond and watched 4 or five types of ducks come into the pond. Some were setting on the shore resting, I am guessing they needed the rest from migration flights. I hoped I would have a pond where we would have ducks for a little hunting. Now that we are seeing some migrating ducks, my son and I decided we would morning hunt only. As I set on that hill watching the ducks come in, I also watched two groups of does at a feeder that sets about 60yds from the pond. Now I ask you, how cool is that? And I have been forced into early retirement due to the crash in the oil and gas industry, I might not have ever retired if the crash did not happen. I still put in a few hr's each week in the business so I am guessing semi retirement?

Do not judge me by the politicians in my City, State or Federal Government.
My water temp's finally dropped to the upper 70's, and the CNBG have tuned back on with a vengeance. 10 second run, and the food's gone in less than 15 seconds.
So how much do you feed them? The CNBG and HSB could eat 50# a day at this one feeder. Total throws of 60 seconds a day is about my self imposed limit.
Every morning I get to start my day with that warm fuzzy of watching what you just showed, especially watching the HSB and LMB hammering the AM LMB food!
Folgers is good, but for me it's the best part of waking up!
But I need help on the self imposed limit. If they're still eating, I'm still throwing (I feed by hand). Seeing the growth is awesome, but it's tough on the pocket!
I hope one day I can get my BG to the size of yours and watch them hammer the food like yours do!

Thanks guys, but I'm not sure at what point things start getting sketchy with feeding. Are you supplementing natural forage, or supplanting it with all the thrown food? That's probably a topic for another thread, but either way, the cooler weather has sure amped things up.
Yep, the feeding to satiation vs. supplemental feeding issue is a tough one.
