So, I am looking for property to start a Christian Youth camp in Texas. I have found several properties that fit my criteria. All the properties have "lakes" or ponds. Once I purchase the ranch, I would like to officially rename the existing lakes or ponds to match the youth camp theme.
For example: I plan to name our camp "Glory Lake". I would like to name the largest lake "Love" and the next "Faith", "Hope" etc.
I know I can just call them whatever I want but, I would like them to be officially changed so Google and other sites can find the property when searched by lake name.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.

If it's on maps, it might be a pretty big problem.
It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Ask google. Or some one experience in Web sites. There are ways.

I have the same question. A prior owner of my property gave the main lake his own name and I would like to change it. On Google Earth, that name comes up over the lake. It's not a huge deal, but I would like to change from "Big _____'s Lake" to something more appropriate. If they can change Mt. McKinley to "Denali".....why not? I guess I'll start with the county.

Addedd: Zep's way in the post below is a much better way
Try this although it may get denied.
1) Zoom to the location on Google Maps 2) In the bottom right hand corner of the window click "Send Feedback" It is is very small print next to the scale. (I am using Chrome may be different in another browser) 3) Upper left, click "Report a Data Problem" 4) Select location on map that needs changed, aka the lake/pond
At that point you should be able to tell them what to change. Good luck, I think they randomly select what to approve and disapprove, you know eeny, meeny, miny, mo.
You will have to do this for each mapping site individually; Mapquest, Bing Maps, Apple Maps, and all the companies that deal in car navigation.

DogLoyalty....when we bought our property we named it and I went on Google and created this new place on Google Maps. That way when someone searched the name of our place they could find exactly where it is on the map. At first the pin-point was slightly off, so I edited the pin-point so it showed exactly where it was. It helps when you try to tell a contractor, friend, or family member where your property is. I just tell them to seach on Google Maps for "______________" and they can see where it is immediately and can zoom in and out on how they should get there. It's been about 3 years, but I think I used Google Map Maker. I suppose you could do the same thing with a lake on Google Maps since it is just another object on the map. http://www.google.com/mapmaker
