Over the last couple days our bluegill have been coming to the surface in about 7/8 ft of water its likeA feeding frenzy. They've been on their beds for A month, the pond is earth bottom about 3/4 acre with two airmax diffusers running 24 hours. It's been around A sunken tree and swim platform where A snapping turtle been hanging out. Their top fins are coming out of the water A couple fish at A time.

Are they feeding on something topside?

"Forget pounds and ounces, I'm figuring displacement!"

If we accept that: MBG(+)FGSF(=)HBG(F1)
And we surmise that: BG(>)HBG(F1) while GSF(<)HBG(F1)
Would it hold true that: HBG(F1)(+)AM500(x)q.d.(=)1.5lbGRWT?
PB answer: It depends.

Or there is another predator fish chasing them up.

I have watched schools of larger BG feeding on the surface in open water at certain times of the year.

BG specially smaller ones at least in my pond will school out in the middle. I have seen them go nuts over small bugs. Ones you can't see.

The only difference between a rut and a Grave is the depth. So get up get out of that rut and get moving!! Time to work!!

Thanks guys!! I was thinking the same thing maybe some kind of hatch is gapping. Their definitely not piping. It's like two or three fish will do it at the same time.

Lots of bugs and critters hatching now. BG know when and where to eat. Lots of studies on BG schooling in deep water to feed and also making there daily trips to do so.
